QE2 off St. Helena.(David Toft)
St. Helena is like no other island I have visited. If you have ever been
ripped off on an island tour, or had constant hassle from street sellers and longed
to see an unspoilt cruise port then this is the place to go. When a ship is in it seems
as if everyone who has any mode of transport, from cars to tractors, is waiting to show
you the island. They are completely uncommercial and you pile into whatever transport
there is on offer. We had the luxury of a (quite old) car and we saw all the sights
including Napoleons grave, the governor’s mansion and Napoleons house. The only way
to visit St. Helena is from the sea, and this has kept it largely unspoiled. The time
to go is now, before someone decides to build an airport. It is one of the few magical
places left. (thanks to David Toft)
This is the sort of landscape you can see on the island. Beautiful !!.(David Toft)
St Helena's Oldest inhabitant, Jonathon, the tortoise resides at Plantation House and is around 170 years old.(David Toft)
